Frugal Food Friday – Campbell’s Chunky Soup And Rice

Hey everyone. I hope your week was great and that your weekend will be even greater :)

I’m just about to enjoy an evening out seeing some great Jazz with my cousin, but before I go, a quick Frugal Food Friday beckons…so here we go…

Last week I was battling a slight cold and hadn’t gone out to do any grocery shopping…nor did I feel like cooking anything.

As I looked in my cupboards – which would have given Mother Hubbard a run for her money – I saw that I had a can of Campbell’s Chunky Sirloin Burger soup. Feeling like something a tad more substantial, I looked around and also noticed that I had some Basmati rice. Then I got an idea…why not make the rice and the soup and add them both together for a truly hearty concoction…which is what I did!

I cooked the rice and soup separately – per instructions – and then combined them both together to make a rather delicious meal that kept me full until morning.

The total cost of both the soup and rice was about two dollars and change. But since I had both, that night anyway, dinner was – relatively – free :) And yes, I know, I had paid for them both at one point so not entirely free!

The take way here is to use what you have at your disposal and to look at your food items in a new light. You never know just how tasty an “odd” paring can be.

I may not do this all the time, but it is nice to know that when I am not feeling well, or if I am just too lazy to do an all out cook-out, that a simple can of soup and some rice can keep me happy and nourished when I need it. And of course, you can use any soup you want, Campbell’s or your own home made.

So…what other “different” food concoctions have you found yourself coming up with at the last minute?

Take care everyone and have a great weekend.
